Digital Plethysmograms in Diabetics

Abstract

|
Digital plhysmograms were analysed in 73 diabetics and the results- were compared by sex, age group, grade of retinopathy and duration of the illness. The catacrotic wave, known to be then most common in the normal, was less frequent in the diabetics, and it was not found in thane cases with diabetic retinopathy. On the contrary, the anacrotic wave was the most common in the diabetics regardless of the presence or absence of retinopathy. The incidence of the other patterns, plateau, dilated and monophasic waves .showed no notable differences between the diabetics, with and without retinopathy and the normal. The incidence of the catacrotic wave appeared to increase as the age increased. The left ventricular ejection time of the diabetics both with and without retinopathy showed no variation from the normal.
